At Edgeworth Family Practice, our friendly Nurses are all fully competent in the administration of IV Iron (Ferinject) and accept referrals from external GP’s for their patients to receive an Iron Infusion.
Low iron levels can result in extreme fatigue, dizziness, pale skin, shortness of breath, headaches, and a rapid heartbeat. If left untreated low iron may result in permanent damage to your heart or other vital organs.

Information for Patients
If you have been referred to us for a Ferinject Iron Infusion we will contact you once we have received the referral from your GP. If you have not heard from us within 48 hours of your GP appointment, please phone our practice 02 4953 0966. After booking your appointment, we will forward an information letter to you via post or email.
Your Ferinject must be collected from the Pharmacy and brought with you to the appointment. Not all Pharmacies keep Ferinject in stock, so please put your script in with your local Pharmacy in advance to ensure it is ready in time for your appointment. Alternatively, we have asked the Pharmacy next door to our Practice (Terry White Chemmart Pharmacy) to keep Ferinject in stock. Please contact the pharmacy on 02 4958 6400 if you would like some put aside for you.
You MUST come to your appointment well hydrated. Your infusion is given through an IV cannula and if you are dehydrated we may have trouble getting a cannula into your vein. If you do not receive your iron due to a failure to hydrate yourself, your appointment will be rebooked ONCE ONLY and the infusion fee will stand.
If it is your first time visiting our Practice, you MUST arrive 20 minutes prior to your appointment time to complete paperwork and have a medical file created for you. Your appointment will last 30 – 50 minutes. Our Nurses are often fully booked. If you are late for your appointment and we are not able to infuse you, the consultation fee will stand.
The cost of the procedure will be explained in your information letter and is rebatable through Medicare. If you would like more information regarding this prior to your appointment please call and speak with our reception staff.
If you have any further questions about your iron infusion, please phone us on 02 4953 0966 and ask to speak to one of our Nurses.
